Let’s turn away from ABC and the networks for a moment and head over to HBO, which has found a lead for Alan Ball’s new show. The unnamed series is about vampires who live among humans instead of hunting them (thanks to some crafty synthetic blood) and is based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris. I gotta say that I love the idea, because I love me some vampires, and Ball pretty much gets a free look from me anyway because of “Six Feet Under,” but it’s definitely a cool sign that they’ve locked in Anna Paquin as the lead. Paquin will play a human waitress who gets involved with a vamp, and while I don’t have the type of crush on her that some at Pajiba do (cough Dustin cough), I’m enough of a fan of her work that I think this is totally a solid move forward for the show. -Pajiba.com

peter boyle died last night :( you may remember him as clyde bruckman from "clyde bruckman's final repose" one of my favourite x-files episodes. he was so good in that episode.

i gotta say, i love "So you think you can dance?" (despite it's moronic title)

honestly i think it's the best reality show, 'cause you have to have TALENT!! and SKILL!! seriously, you can fake your way into the top 12 on idol (ahem*ace young*ahem) but there is no way to fake the fox trot. UGH it's so good!!!

evan and i had an interesting converstation today about the sopranos (SPOILER WARNING STOP READING IF YOU CARE ABOUT SEASONS 1-3 AND PLEASE NO SPOILERS BEYOND THAT IN COMMENTS) so the character big pussy gets killed by tony at the end of season 2 because he was ratting them out to the feds, and i was really surprised, because i thought he was a staple character or what have you. and evan was like "you were surprised, i thought that piece of information was like pop culture knowledge now." it got me wondering what else might be part of the pop culture vocabularly that i might be out of the loop on. i haven't missed one yet on gilmore girls, but i guess those are easy.

i could not believe my ears tonight on the amazing race.
fran, an older woman, was asking lake, a young, aggressive man, to step away from her; the reason was unclear, it was either because he was making her uncomfortable, or because she didn't want him to hear their travel plans. either way, it was a calm and apropriate request. lake turns to his wife, michelle, and says "she is the wife of a doctor, she should not be speaking that way." and there are people in this world who say sexism doesn't exist! ugh it made me really sad.

anyway, i've been thinking about organ transplantation like, 24/7 because of this class i'm taking.
we had an interesting discussion in class the other day based around the following question:
do you think prisoners should receive organ transplants? or should their place on the organ transplant list be effected by the fact that they are prisoners?
lots of differing opinions; i say give them organs because that's a slippery slope...what's next, no bandaids for when they cut themselves? plus, not giving them one would be a death sentence when they don't deserve that. some people argued that perhaps people on death row shouldn't get organ transplants. i argued that the justice system is so flawed that that would be equal to lethal injection of possibly innocent people (because not everyone on death row is guilty.)
but then someone was like "would you give paul bernardo an organ?" and i just couldn't say yes. 'cause fuck him.

ok so i just saw a preview for a new fox show premiering next week i think
it's called unanimous, and basically it's a competition between 10 people to get 1.5 million dollars. the point though is that they have to come to a unanimous decision to award the money to one of them (i.e. there are no challenges, they just talk it out until they decide.) OMG this is like a philosopher/anthropologist's dream come true. i hope it's good, it definitely looks interesting.
